Today we headed over from our vacation home in Lake Placid, over to Burlington Vermont to check out Airstreams at the Burlington dealer. This was our first chance to check out an Airstream Bambi, which we decided was our destiny after 3 enjoyable years with our teardrop trailer. At this point we didn't know if the 16ft or 19ft was going to be the choice. Our goal was simply to check out Airstreams up closed and personal. What a place! The Maine Collection carries out favorite toys.. Dorals and Airstreams... so far so good! Unfortunately the only 19ft Bambi on site was a customers in for repairs... and no key to check it out inside. The trip wasn't in vain... we we're able to check out several different models of Airstreams, mainly large units. One thing we agreed on, most of the news units had too much of a modern 'Ikea' look. Leaving the dealers lot, we spend the rest of the day checking out Burlington and touring shops on Church street.
The highlight of the day was lunch a Leunig's Bistro at the corner of Church and College! Upon returning to Lake Placid, Kate started some more research on the net researching various models of Airstreams... and off course searching on 'vintage' (seeing how we always like the 'retro' look of trailers). Next thing I know Kate is screaming in glee, having found David Winick's site. A few minutes later both of us are perusing David's site before heading over to the Airstream site to see if we can find the 75th Anniversary Bambi. By late evening I am busy investigating dealer locations across the eastern US and voila! I find Colonial Airstream in Lakewood NJ, home to a 75th! A quite check on my GPS software indicates we have about a 7 hour drive ahead of us if we want to take a road trip down to Lakewood :(
